Halestorm = Excellent. In This Moment = disappoint

In This Moment, who I've listened to for a number of years, was really a disappointment as opener for Halestorm. ITM played pretty much only songs from the brand-new album that few people really "knew" yet, and hardly played any old songs. They had all kinds of theatric stuff going on up on stage, but Maria pretty much just stood there and wasn't interesting at all. It looked really contrived and the band didn't sound good at all (I"ve seen them before, a few years back, and enjoyed them). Plus it's amazing how uninteresting ITM's guitar and drum work is.....they all look like they don't want to be there....no energy. Was also a bit ??? about Maria walking around the stage with a combination cover (military hat) on, waving a big red flag with a skull on it and getting the crowd to pump their fists. It had a very......third-reich-ish feel to it. Halestorm was excellent. No props, no theatrics, just plain hard rock. Lizzy sang great and is a true entertainer. Arejay was super-entertaining to watch on the drums, and the other guitarist and bassist played well. All of the band looked like they were having a great time and got the crowd very involved. They played pretty much all the songs that anyone wanted to hear, as well as an epic Judas Priest cover, which was a nice touch. Overall, ITM I was looking forward to seeing and was really disappointed. Halestorm was better than I could have possibly expected.

Halestorm ROCKED!!

Wow, Halestorm acted as their own opening band with a great acoustic set. Lzzy looked great in her long white (pure) dress during the set. The interaction with the audience was perfect, too. They left the stage for about 15 - 20 minutes and came back out for their "real" set and wow, they ROCKED!!! No more white dress. Time for the black leather mini skirt! Her voice is amazing. She can hit the high notes, the low notes and she can scream!!! (But scream in a good way!) RJ's drum solo was INSANE! Didn't care for the cover songs they did - I simply don't feel like they need to play other band's songs. Their own songs are definitely good enough!! But it does mix up the show, so I wasn't disappointed, just don't feel it's necessary. I was really impressed with the live version of "You Call Me a Bitch Like it's a Bad Thing". Of course, their closing song, "I Miss the Misery" was amazing. My first time seeing them - DEFINITELY NOT THE LAST!!!

An amazing 2 1/1hr. show!

As always Lzzy's vocals were right on and the band was exceptionally tight that night. The first part of the 2 1/2hr. show they all wore white and came out to show us their slower, softer side. Lzzy finished this set with "Break In" on piano. They took a quick break, long enough to change and they came out in all black to show us their harder, faster side and blew us all away with their heavier songs.A few covers throw into both sets. The crowd, and myself could not sing with her loud enough. Great fun and energetic show! Halestorm wrapped up the night with "I Miss The Misery!!" Love the Halestorm, and can't wait until their next local performance. They always play a fantastic show! Definitely a band to not be missed!

Just keeps getting better..

The show at the Electric Factory in Philly marked the fourth time I've seen this band perform live (previously I saw them at Croc Roc in Allentown on New Year's Eve 2011, The Sherman Theater in Stroudsberg, and House of Blues in AC) and they just keep getting better each time. The first set which included their "softer" tracks was performed accoustic and showcased how truly talented front woman Lzzy Hale is as a vocalist and musician (having opened on piano and then switched to guitar.) It was intimate and engaging two words I would have never thought to use when reviewing a metal band, but they apply just the same. The second act, which was a set compiled of the remainder of their first two studio albums was eveything you'd expect and want from a rock show. I challenge anyone who goes to see them try to walk out unimpressed by their talent, passion, and appreciation for what they do. Overall, an incredible live act for any fan of rock music.
